Is gasoline starting this?

I started a fire in my fireplace by using cardboard and gasoline. Soon after I did the fireplace started my smoking. I made sure that the flute was open so the smoke wouldn't get in but it still continued to smoke. Is the gasoline starting this or is it that a little draft wind could do it?( the wind isn't blowing at all)
