Whats going on with my boyfriend please help?

So this is my first relationship and Iam so new at this. So yesterday when I was with him, there was a message from his friend. It said "but I dont want to hurt him(meaning me)". So i was like woah what is the whole message, show me the whole thing. So eventually he showed it to me. It said that he and this guy nic like each other but they both have boyfriends, and he doesnt know what to do. But he said he doesnt want to hurt me. We argued then we were fine the next day. I asked him thou wat exactly was going on. He said that he liked this guy and he felt like this guy if giving him attention.But he wanted it to be platonic. so trying to avoid the possibility of something happening I thought that maybe if i met this guy and became friends alittle would be beneficial. So i told my bf that me and nic have actually alot in common. we like alot of the same music that most people dont listen to and that we probably would get along. Then I said that hes boyfriend was actually pretty cute, I didnt mean anything by it just striking conversation. He got mad cursed me and logged off. I know what your thinking. but no he never gets angry for me complimenting another guy, He often does it and tells me to not worry and hes just saying. So it seems like hes really jealous of nics boyfriend which could only mean one thing. Also yesterday when me and my bg were together we got a message from nic saying that he couldnt make it to volleyball tonight and he got real upset. and when i said that maybe he went out with his boyfriend instead of volleyball he got real made and was like no way he said friends. I said yeah maybe friend as in boyfriend and he kept denying it like he didnt want to believe it.. Is this just my insecurities or should i confront him about it. Also my prom is tmro and hes my date im afriad i might make him angry and ruin everything. What shoud I do?
