Want to check files on external HDD without restarting Windows?

I have an external HDD that I suspect might have corrupt files on. I would like to do a scan for corrupt files, bad sectors and disk errors without having to restart windows and the doing the scan outside of windows like Check Disk does. Any third party freeware I can use that is good?
