How long does a top end last before replacing on a 2 stoke dirt bike?

When I raced my 125 Honda a life time ago, I replaced the piston ring every two or three races. Piston was checked for wear during every ring change. Piston lasted about 6 to 8 races. The 125 I raced was air cooled.
